Greater parental involvement in the decisions kids make about drugs is critical to preventing and reducing substance abuse. Our research has shown that kids who report learning a lot about the risks of drugs from their parents are up to half as likely to use drugs as those who don’t. However, only about 3 out of 10 kids report learning a lot about drugs from their parents. Our Parent Campaign is designed to inspire more parents and other family influencers to connect with their kids in ways that persuade them to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The campaign includes comprehensive new information and resources to assist families in preventing, recognizing, and dealing with substance abuse problems.
The website is organized in action-oriented sections that both educate and inspire parents and other influencers of kids to better understand and “know” their children, how to connect with them, how to keep tabs on them, how to spot drug use, and what to do if they suspect their child is using alcohol or other drugs.
CheckYourself.com is a place for teens to think in a focused way about their relationship with drugs and alcohol, and invites them to consider whether their substance use risks turning into a problem for them.
The site allows visitors to "look in the mirror" by answering quiz questions about their lifestyle, reading first-person stories, communicating with other teens, and playing decision games to see how they might act in situations involving drugs and alcohol. CheckYourself.com also gives teens a voice by allowing them to share their own "moments of truth" on a message board. Most importantly, visitors will be able to get factual answers to questions about substance abuse, learn how to talk about their concerns with people who can help them, and get information about counseling and treatment facilities.
Our Get Help for Drug Problems section (also known as Hope, Help and Healing and InterveneNow) is a part of an innovative multimedia initiative designed to provide hope to those struggling with addiction as well as help for families in need by encouraging intervention and treatment for alcohol and drug problems.
On this comprehensive website you'll find resources for help, information about the disease of addiction, assessment tools/quizzes, ways to help a loved one, ways to help oneself, intervention tips, guidance about treatment and recovery as well as inspiring stories of recovery.

Our Rx/OTC program is the first national education program to reduce teen abuse of prescription (Rx) and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. This educational campaign provides tools and information that can 1) help parents learn more about how young people are abusing medicines 2) encourages parents to talk with their kids about these dangers, 3) reminds parents to safeguard medicines in their home.
Our Methamphetamine Program educates families and community members about the dangers meth abuse and manufacturing poses to children, the environment, communities and our society. It also warns potential users of the rapid addictive quality of meth as well as the severe physiological and psychological damage it causes to those using it. This program provides prevention and educational messages as well resources for taking action and getting help.
The current effort to inform both parents and teens about the dangers of Inhalant abuse includes both a mass media campaign, including new television and radio public service announcements, as well as a collaboration with the Alliance for Consumer Education's (ACE) ongoing outreach across the U.S. to school counselors and nurses with educational materials about inhalant abuse.
Cough medicine abuse is taking extremely large doses of cough medicine to get high. The "high" is caused by taking a large amount of dextromethorphan, which is often abbreviated DXM, a common active ingredient found in many cough medications. This sort of abuse -- whether it's called cough medicine abuse, or dextromethorphan, or DXM abuse -- can be dangerous.
The Rx and OTC abuse prevention campaign features an innovative online component consisting of unique and engaging websites focused on the dangers of abusing cough medicine and its active ingredient, Dextromethorphan (DXM).
Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America have developed an advertising campaign designed to educate America's youth and their parents about the dangers of steroids and performance-enhancing substances. Together, MLB and The Partnership have conducted the most comprehensive research study ever commissioned on the perceptions and attitudes of young people, parents, and high school athletic coaches relative to the use of steroids and performance enhancing substances.
The Partnership's Affiliates helps states and large cities develop media campaigns designed to prevent substance abuse among kids. The program provides participating states and cities with use of the Partnership's award-winning advertising, along with technical assistance for the implementation of a local ad campaign.
The Partnership's affiliates can also provide you with information about drugs in your state or community, and ways you can get involved in your community's efforts against drugs such as methamphetamine.
